Hike In Stepantsminda And Explore Mtskheta

Day start with the visit to the former capital and religious center of Georgia - Mtskheta a 3000 years old town where we are going to explore two UNESCO world heritage sites! Next we head to the north to hike in the mountains of Khevi region, enjoy the views of the 3rd highest peak of Georgia -  mount Kazbeg 5054 m and visit Gergeti Trinity Church located on the top of the hill.

Tour Itinerary:


The day starts with a drive to Jvari monastery (a 20-minute drive from Tbilisi), dating from the 6th century. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site from where there is spectacular view of the town of Mtskheta. After the Jvari church, we continue driving to the north of Georgia and stop at Ananuri, a fortified complex from the Middle Ages with views of the Zhinvali water reservoir. Next is a drive, via  Gudauri ski resort and the Jvari pass (2395 m) to Stepantsminda (Kazbegi). After lunch in a local restaurant, we either walk to the Trinity Church of Gergeti, dating from the 14th century, or drive up to the hill where the church is located. After the visit to the monastery and enjoying the breathtaking views of the 3rd highest peak of Georgia, Kazbeg  5054 metes ASL  leave the town. On the way back we visit Mtskheta, a 3000-year-old town and first capital of the eastern Georgian kingdom of Iberia. In Mtskheta we visit the Svetitskhoveli cathedral, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. After exploring the cathedral, we have time for souvenir shopping, and then we drive back to Tbilisi.
